The guy has "the plan" - the idea in his mind of exactly how that magic moment is going to happen. The girl, unaware of "the plan", thinks the guy is crazy.<br /><br />On a trip to Japan, Bobby was going to propose to Hildy, and he knew exactly how he was going to do it. While on an evening cruise in the harbour, he was going to ask her. The problem came when they got off at the wrong train station. <div><br /></div><div>Bobby knew that they had to make it to that boat, even though it was pouring (Hildy was sure to emphasize the word *pouring*) rain. Hildy thought he was crazy and that they should just forget about the boat ride because of the bad weather, and because they were already soaking wet. The walk continued on for hours. They got on the boat. </div><div><br /></div><div>Bobby went out to the front of the boat (still raining!), and wanted her to follow him. Hildy thought he was crazy and that they should stay out of the rain. Finally Bobby convinced her to come outside with him, and the rest is history!<br /><br />These two were full of giggles the entire session, and we love how candid the photos turned out. Erin was working a second job as a waitress at the pub when Matt was hired as a part-time bartender.</div><div><span class="Apple-tab-span" style="white-space:pre"> </span>"My friend made a point of showing me the hot new bartender," says Erin, who reacted with a "Whoa!"</div><div><span class="Apple-tab-span" style="white-space:pre"> </span>The feeling was mutual - as Matt spent some time talking to Erin, he realized that there was something about her that he was attracted to. In fact, after just a few weeks of knowing each other, Matt boldly told her, "Just so you know, we're going to end up together."</div><div><br /></div><div><span class="Apple-tab-span" style="white-space:pre"> </span>It turns out that his prediction was true - the two got engaged during a recent trip to Niagra Falls. And by a long time, I mean almost a decade. You see, I first met Anita when I was helping out at a Church, when I first moved to Calgary. At the time, Anita was an adorable and awkward little teenager.<br /><br />I've been so blessed to see her grow from that teenager into a beautiful young woman. I felt bad for Rob when he first had to meet Ashley and I. We're always quite hard on those men who think that they are worthy enough for girls like Anita! Rob passed all our scrutiny with flying colours. Not only did Rob find a fantastic girl, but Anita found a fantastic man.<br /><br />This wedding also had special meaning to Ashley and I because the officiant, Storm, also married us so many years ago. I've known Storm for over fifteen years, and *gasp* I'm almost the age he was when I started making fun of how old he was. Her and Dean and I (Mike) have a lot in common. We share a lot of the same obscure interests in movies and comics, as well as video games. Just the other day, we met their new cat, named "Choco", which is short for "Chocobo". They met while at University in Ontario, and have spent more time apart than together as they've continued their studies. Todd finished his schooling in Calgary, while Elaine headed to Texas. Alyssa found SNAP while she was googling wedding photographers in Calgary, and after reviewing our portfolio she sent us an email with the subject "Want to come to the Zoo?"<br /><br />Emails between Mike and Alyssa flew back and forth, and we were so excited to actually meet this couple with such fun personalities. We hit it off almost instantly while playing darts at a local pub for our first meeting, and since then were looking forward to this fun and unique wedding.<br /><br />Some favorites from the day...<br /><br /><br /><img src="http://www.snapcalgary.ca/blog/wiens/11.jpg" width="700" /><br /><br /><img src="http://www.snapcalgary.ca/blog/wiens/31a.jpg" width="700" /><br /><br /><div>The Ceremony was held in the Dorothy Harvie gardens at the Calgary Zoo. The sky threatened rain all morning, but held out until the ceremony was finished. I loved that Jay and Alyssa had intertwined their style and personalities throughout the day. While Jay and his groomsman entered the gardens dancing to a rock song, Alyssa and her bridesmaids entered to a much softer tune. It was a perfect combination of excitement and emotion. </div><div><br /></div><div>Jay's boutonniere fell off his jacket during his entrance, but it was a great moment to capture when his brother pinned it back on quickly before the girls noticed!</div><div><br /><img src="http://www.snapcalgary.ca/blog/wiens/27.jpg" width="700" /><div><br /></div><div>I snapped this photo while Alyssa began her walk down the aisle. When we asked them to forget about the camera and act like themselves, they would do just that. They also have a pretty rad dog named Cooper that was amazingly well behaved for photo time. This property and historic home are owned by <a href="http://www.qwanoes.ca/">Camp Qwanoes</a> and is used as a retreat for their staff. Mike and I have many memories of our first year together on this property where we met. But, It turns out you can even make a potential eyesore like the mill into something beautiful! The resort is surrounded by flowering gardens, and a fantastic panoramic ocean view. Because most of the guests stayed at the resort, we had a great time mingling and hot tubbing all weekend long. Many of the guests received relaxing massages in-between the ceremony and reception, while others enjoyed having lunch on the front lawn just outside of my parents suite. I loved that all the guests got to relax and get to know each other better, and they didn't even have to leave the resort.<br /><br /></div><div>The ceremony was held outside on a grassy lawn overlooking the ocean. The guests all sat on white wooden chairs, and the umbrellas that we had planned as backup "just in case" didn't have to come out of the packaging. While the wedding party walked out to music that would build and become louder, everyone waited in anticipation to see the bride. Just as she appeared at the end of the aisle the music burst into a perfect dramatic chorus, and it was certainly enough to trigger tears from me and many of the guests. As I watched my sister and father come down the aisle, I couldn't hold back the joy and tears. Amanda was so excited to see her husband to be. The night before the wedding she created bouquets and boutonniere's from flowers she picked up at a local flower farm. Caryn has such a creative eye, I bet you wouldn't believe that this was her first time making floral arrangements for a wedding? Although a lot of the flowers she used were found locally and even picked from our backyard, many were shipped in as per the brides wishes. The very talented <a href="http://www.imskyberg.com/">Ingra Marthe</a> and <a href="http://www.modelmayhem.com/830131">Robyn Nowoczin</a> photographed the entire day for us. I enjoyed very much trading in the role of wedding photographer to be the Matron of Honour, it was a very unique experience to see my sisters wedding with this perspective. We went to Rathtrevor Beach, one our favorite places to go when we were kids. Luke and Amanda had all kinds of fun ideas to make their reception unique. I loved this table seating chart that they put together, as well as this colorful guestbook idea. We had shot our engagement film over a month ago but wanted to wait until they debuted it at their reception on Vancouver Island. It was a lot of fun to shoot and work with the couple. Luke decided to bring his guitar and antique camera for creative props. We shot mostly in Edworthy park Calgary, with our night time footage in a rose garden along the river. I have never seen a bride so at peace with the day. Chryslyn and her girls started the day off with makeup and hair and then we went SHOPPING! I followed the girls around with the camera as they browsed through bags and shoes! I actually ended up going back the next day and purchasing some boots that I had spotted out of the corner of my eye... the girls were all about having fun. When we got back to Chryslyn's parents home the girls painted their toes, and Chryslyn got in some last minute Wii golf!<br /><br />The girls both wore Jcrew dresses made out of a similar material but had a different cut. Super super cute. I like that the colors ended up mixing well with the yellow flowers.<br /><br />If any of you know someone that is getting married, ask me about wedding survivor! The M.C's at this wedding were totally entertaining.
